Complementing the Guest Experience
Using landscape enhancements and maintenance to create exterior grounds that complement the interior guest experience
THE CHALLENGE
121 Acres in Search of Landscape Upgrades and Management
Located on 2,000 acres in the Laurel Highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort offers guests a little bit of everything, from golf, swimming, and spa treatments to fly fishing, off-road driving, a zip line, and winter skiing. The resort's operations director knew that beautifully maintained landscaping provides a great first impression and adds to the overall guest experience. He also knew that the resort's landscape needed an upgrade to match the quality of their AAA Four- and Five-Diamond rated accommodations and Five-Diamond restaurant.
THE SOLUTION
Proactive Plan Takes Details and Long-Term Goals into Consideration
Resort management partnered with us to get the job done. Our proposal included a detailed scope of work for landscape maintenance for all the resort grounds, a five-year plan for increasing plant health, capabilities for designing and installing enhancements, and a commitment to remaining flexible and attentive to the guest experience.
Once we came on board, our team got to work maintaining the resort's approximately 121 acres of landscaped areas, including 104 acres of turf and 17 acres of planted flower beds. Like most resorts, Nemacolin hosts a number of weddings, corporate events, and special family celebrations. Our on-site supervisor reviews the weekly schedule and ensures our team details, or spruces up, specific areas before each event. We also take care of seasonal tasks, such as leaf and snow removal, as well as all the maintenance needed to keep the resort grounds top quality.
THE OUTCOME
Beauty Achieved and a Master Plan for Future Improvements
Resort management could not be more pleased with the results. Most recently, as part of $30-million renovation to the resort's buildings, we created a master plan for the resort's landscaped grounds that complements the updated building facades. The landscaping works in harmony with the existing environment and is characterized by many naturalized areas, clean lines, and simplified designs. Use of native plants and stone creates the desired mood or level of formality for each space.
Our exterior grounds now complement and support the interior guest experience. First impressions are lasting impressions, so it's important to us that our landscaping looks beautiful.
