BrightView Team Members Save Two Lives in Less Than a Month
All seven team members were honored
The mission of every BrightView team member is the same every day, whether they are picking up a leaf blower, shovel, edger, or pen: to create customer value through engaged local teams and providing industry-leading landscape services.
Recently, customer value was taken to a whole new level thanks to some team members from the Florida Central Region, who are certified in First Aid and CPR.
Their extra focus on safety saved not just one, but two lives in less than 30 days.
April 27
Toward the end of the day on April 27, our team members in our Orlando, Fla. market were cleaning up the Eagle Creek Homeowners Association site, when they heard screaming near the pool area.
The crew rushed to the scene where a 4-year-old boy was drowning in the facility’s pool. A person who also heard the screams had pulled the boy out of the pool, but did not know how to perform CPR. Another witness began the CPR process and BrightView’s Miguel Maldonado Rosa assisted until paramedics arrived. Fellow team members Juan Alvarado and Carlos San Miguel Rivera also assisted with the situation and helped to keep the boy’s family calm.
“Eagle Creek would like to recognize these crew members and thank them for their heroic acts,” said Kelly Willson, General Manager, Homeowners Association of Eagle Creek, Inc. “Everyone involved is truly grateful for their actions.”
May 17
On the morning of May 17 at the Mystic Dunes Resort and Golf Club in Kissimmee, Fla., a guest approached team members Jose Sandoval, Carlos Ojeda, Luz Mojica, and Manuel Vazquez, from our Four Corners branch, asking for help. The guest explained that he was not feeling well and requested their assistance. As the guest began to explain his symptoms, he fainted.
Unable to find a pulse, Ojeda and Mojica immediately began administering CPR, which lasted for nearly 20 minutes until emergency crews arrived.
“BrightView has an unwavering commitment to the health and safety of all team members, customers, and those we interact with on a daily basis,” said Holly Woonton, Vice President, Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S). “That commitment can help make a difference in the communities in which we work, live and play.”
“I know BrightView has the best team members on the planet and these acts of heroism once again prove it,” said Michael Dozier, Division President, Evergreen East. “Everyone is very grateful for the action and courage taken by our Florida Central teams and we are extremely proud of their efforts and support provided during both of these emergencies.”
In recognition of their heroics, all seven team members were honored at an award ceremony.
