Security and safety measures run the risk of making a school feel less like a place of learning, but a thoughtful landscape can combat this effect. Not only can it be employed to meet the latest requirements, it also plays an important role in softening or concealing imposing barriers or safety equipment.

Doing more with less has become an unfortunate refrain for many schools. However, preserving the quality of education doesn’t have to come at the expense of campus appearance or safety. Outsourcing your landscape and grounds maintenance can help free up resources without sacrificing what matters most.

With graduation just three weeks away, Howard University was anxious for a restored landscape that honors the university's heritage. BrightView executed a contract the same day and began work immediately.

The BrightView team that maintains the campus is now operating entirely with low-emission electric mowers and hand-held equipment. With each mower running an average of 300 hours per year, the team expects this will eliminate the amount of emissions equivalent to approximately 1,500 cars averaging 12,000 miles each year.

Outsourcing landscape management significantly improved the look of Mercer's campus, contributing to increased enrollment while also reducing costs. While many factors play into enrollment, first impressions matter and landscaping plays a vital role. Mercer University enrolled the largest freshman class ever in 2013 and has increased total enrollment by 10.6 percent over the last five years. 

Students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida worked with BrightView volunteers to complete an outdoor leaning space, adding educational gardens, a butterfly garden, and a reflective and tranquility garden.

Students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School were working on an outdoor learning space and after the tragedy of Feb. 14, BrightView offered its services to help improve the area. The students, faculty, and BrightView worked together to finish the garden and installed a reflective and tranquility garden as a place to learn and heal, featuring 17 granite stones for the lives lost in the tragedy.

At Southern Connecticut State University, students, faculty, staff, and members of the community worked together to create a Remembrance Garden, featuring the university's Alumnae Sandy Hook Memorial to honor the memory of the four alumni educators who were lost in the tragedy. 

After Hurricane Harvey swept through Houston, Texas, it left Hilliard Elementary's landscaping bleak and desolate. Well, that was until more than 600 volunteers came out to restore the grounds for the return of the students in the 2018-19 school year.

At Mount Paran Christian School, the operational management was looking to upgrade the campus grounds and the sports fields. BrightView's experts, through open and constant communication, were able to create a more environmentally sustainable landscape, assist with preparation for special school activities, and accomplish it all without interruptions to the school or sports activities.
