Chances are you’ve seen our ubiquitous trucks around town; but it’s not every day you see them packed to the gills with donated food. Yet that curious sight is precisely what happened thanks to BrightView Landscape Services Phoenix "Stuff the Truck" Food Drive, resulting in an 1,810-pound haul of non-perishable food donations for Saint Mary’s Food Bank. The donations yielded more than 1,500 meals for Arizona residents in need and required 4 vehicles from the BrightView fleet for transport.

The large-scale effort included five BrightView branches in the greater Phoenix area—Phoenix West, Scottsdale, Phoenix East, Gilbert, and Mesa—working in partnership with 16 property management offices:

The drive was organized by BrightView Business Developer Anna DeToro. Donations were collected from November 1, 2021 to December 22, 2021 and provided to the food bank in time for the holidays.

Each year two million Arizonans are faced with food insecurity, including one in four children. In some areas of the state, more than 30% of the population is affected. Though located in Phoenix, St. Mary’s Food Bank distributes food throughout most of Arizona. Founded in 1967, it is one the largest food banks in the country. After COVID forced them to close for the health and safety of the families they serve, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Greater Washington, DC recently reopened the doors of their Ronald McDonald House of Northern Virginia to families in need. Used most often by Inova Fairfax Children’s Hospital patients and families, RMHC put the time off to good effect, completely remodeling and expanding the “home-away-from-home” and surrounding landscaping. Now, eight months later, the House has reopened its doors and is celebrating its new look, which includes new landscaping provided by BrightView.

The community celebrated the reopening September 9 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Attendees included local dignitaries, families that have benefitted from the facility, and partner organizations that contributed to the remodel.

“The ribbon-cutting event was the cherry on top of this amazing project and the perfect end to this heartwarming experience,” said Hailee Elza, BrightView Account Manager, Mid-Atlantic. “BrightView is grateful to be a part of this special opportunity.”

The surrounding landscape shined during the ceremony, thanks to a collaboration between Capital One Center, Jones Lang LaSalle, and BrightView. The lush landscaping includes a welcoming entryway filled with shrubs and cheerful planters. The open lawn area is now surrounded by holly bushes, crimson pygmy barberry plants, morning light miscanthus, and lush variegated liriope. Visiting families are encouraged to enjoy the calming courtyard during their stay, which also includes a new patio, playground and picnic area.

“When we learned that the Ronald McDonald House of Northern Virginia had plans to reopen, Capital One Center wanted to dream big with our amazing partners Jones Lang LaSalle and BrightView and collectively beautify this home away from home,” said Meghan Trossen, Manager, Capital One Center Marketing and Community Affairs. “BrightView's landscaping expertise enabled a true transformation, and we couldn't be more proud about the passion behind this project and opportunity to support the important mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities® and local families in need.”

This impressive renovation project began in 2020 when Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Greater Washington, DC (RMHCDC) sought to increase the number of families their programs can serve. Their Northern Virginia House tripled in size with 24 total bedrooms, a new family room, pantry, laundry room, and playroom.

“Our Ronald McDonald House programs are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when your child is sick,” said Sarah Quillen, Vice President of Development & Marketing for RMHCDC. “We rely on the support of community partners like BrightView to help us ensure that families have all the comforts of home while they are with us. BrightView’s expert crew went a step further and provided landscaping, tree removal, and planted flowers to give our house the beautiful grandness befitting our grand reopening and ribbon cutting.”

The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC is to ease the hardship of children’s illness on families through programs that directly impact the health and wellbeing of children. Located directly on the campus of Inova Fairfax Hospital, the Northern Virginia House has been serving families in need since 1998.

“Any joy that we can provide to the families caring for their children during this overwhelming time in their lives gives all of us great pride,” said James Newton, BrightView Branch Manager, Mid-Atlantic. “It is an honor for BrightView to be able to give back to both Inova Fairfax Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House of Northern Virginia.”

National Association of Landscape Professionals: Stronger Together

National Association of Landscape Professionals: Stronger Together

Since its inception in 2017, GROW has worked to celebrate and advocate for women in the landscaping industry. With landscaping an historically male male-dominated industry, GROW provides a model for other efforts to assist women across the service sector.

Amanda Orders, BrightView’s Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer and GROW Executive Sponsor, and Caroline Weilert, BrightView’s Vice President of Marketing and Brand Management and co-leader of GROW, were recently interviewed in a National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) article highlighting the importance of company-led support programs.

“We started GROW to bring more professional development, networking, and mentorship opportunities to the women of BrightView,” Weilert said.

“That has included a variety of programming and efforts — all, of course, made a little more challenging since the COVID-19 pandemic when we’ve had to switch from in-person events to virtual.”

With its mission to attract, promote, and retain women within BrightView, GROW is largely made possible through the inspiring stories shared with one another.

The importance of inclusion doesn’t stop at GROW as it also expands to other areas within BrightView and with a large focus on diversity training.

“We want our people to understand that there is strength in diversity—not just in gender diversity, but across the board,” Orders said.

BrightView Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: BV) (“the Company” or “BrightView”), the leading commercial landscaping services company in the United States, today announced that it would pay $6 million in one-time bonuses to frontline team members for their work during the peak of the coronavirus outbreak. More than 13,500 employees in branches across the U.S. will receive the bonus.

“Very early in the pandemic, landscaping was designated an essential service by federal and state authorities, allowing us to continue to serve our clients and help assure the safety of their properties,” said BrightView President and CEO Andrew Masterman. “For our frontline team members, this meant working outside, day after day, providing those essential services. This bonus is our way of acknowledging their work and commitment to BrightView and our clients under very difficult circumstances.”

Those eligible for the one-time bonus include frontline workers and leaders employed by BrightView on May 1, 2020 and remaining with the Company through October 31, 2020 in BrightView’s Maintenance, Development, Golf Maintenance and Tree Care businesses.

“I have never been more proud to be part of this team,” Masterman said. “Every employee in every role has stepped up during this challenging time and made significant contributions to BrightView. We created custom protocols for equipment and vehicle sanitation, personal hygiene, face coverings and social distancing that were appropriate for the nature of our work, but our frontline workers in the field still had to leave their homes every day and do the difficult work of serving our clients.”

Frontline BrightView team members eligible for the bonus will begin receiving checks over the next several days. Masterman said the bonus is one small way BrightView can show appreciation for those team members who have worked in the field with clients during these months of quarantine and lockdown.

BrightView Serves Holy Cross Germantown Hospital

BrightView Serves Holy Cross Germantown Hospital BrightView's partnership with Holy Cross Germantown Hospital extends beyond the facility's landscape.
Holy Cross Support
The BrightView crew displays
their support for the brave staff
at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital.

For the past two years, BrightView has proudly served the campus of Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, keeping the grounds and landscaping a focal point for the employees and visitors. BrightView recognizes that no matter the weather, our job is to deliver safe and navigable walkways, parking areas, and entrances that help reduce liability and minimize safety risks.

As COVID-19 began impacting our entire country, BrightView recognized that while landscapes continued to grow and need maintaining, facilities had bigger issues to worry about. Nowhere was this truer than for those in the healthcare industry. BrightView continues to work closely with the team at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital to keep them informed of the service schedule, handle any requests they may have, and make their experience during these trying times as pleasant as possible. While we recognize nothing can ease what the brave healthcare professionals are going through, BrightView was happy to donate cupcakes and flowers to Holy Cross Germantown Hospital staff to help brighten their day.

BrightView looks forward to continuing to serve this valued client.

BrightView Landscapes and Saluting Branches Partner to Care for America’s Veterans’ Cemeteries

BrightView Partners with Saluting Branches to Care for America’s Veterans’ Cemeteries

BrightView Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: BV), the leading commercial landscaping services company in the United States, today announced that it has entered into a national partnership with Saluting Branches: Arborists United for Veteran Remembrance, a charitable foundation that provides much-needed tree care services to nearly 70 U.S. veterans cemeteries across the nation.

BrightView has joined the ranks of other Saluting Branches national partners as well as committing skilled landscapers and arborists for the organization’s national Day of Service this fall. On September 23, 2020, thousands of volunteers, working under the supervision of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and prominent local and national tree care and landscaping firms, gather to make needed improvements to cemeteries providing a final resting place for America’s veterans.

“Saluting Branches is grateful for the commitment that BrightView is making to our organization. The contribution they are providing will make it possible for us to support the thousands of green industry professionals who dedicate their time and services to our cause. We appreciate BrightView sharing in our mission and commitment to serving veterans through this national day of service,” said Ben Cooper, Saluting Branches president.

“It is a great honor to support Saluting Branches and to help them in this important work,” said BrightView President and CEO Andrew Masterman. “Ours is a company that has long supported the U.S. military and we are proud to join with others in our industry to be part of an effort to make these sacred spaces safer and more beautiful.”

The partnership is part of BrightView’s larger commitment to those who have served in the U.S. military. Last fall the company launched BrightView Recognizing and Acknowledging Veteran Opportunities – BRAVO – an internal resource group that works to recruit, hire and retain former service members. BRAVO also supports groups and initiatives that celebrate military service and provides support for veterans transitioning out of military service, including combat-disabled veterans.

About Saluting Branches

Rainbow Treecare, located in Minnetonka, Minn., created the Saluting Branches Day of Service in 2015. Since its inception, thousands in the industry have joined together to donate an estimated $4.5 million in services at veterans’ properties across the U.S.
